I remember as a little girl waiting for my dad to get up on Christmas morning. Waiting for him to wake up took every bit of patience in me. I remember running into my parents’ bedroom pouncing on my dad begging him to get up. Why? Because when he got out of bed, we could open our gifts.

When dad got up, not only could we get our gifts on Christmas morning but throughout the year when dad got up on the weekends, there was always something special to look forward to including fun trips.

Jesus got up! And because He got up, because He’s awake, because He’s alive there is a wonderful gift, we can all have.

In a time of pandemic when we have witnessed millions of lives taken by an invisible virus and perhaps wonder about our own vulnerability, there is a certain gift that is particularly meaningful today.

Because Jesus got up, not even death is final for those who believe in Him.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
